The global sea freight industry has seen major disruption resulting from the events in the Red Sea area at the end of 2023, going into 2024. Commercial cargo vessels have been, and are being targeted and attacked in the area. This has forced shipping lines to rethink and rearrange their routings of many vessels. Most shipping lines are opting to avoid the Suez Canal altogether, and re-route via the Cape of Good Hope.
The situation is still changing daily, with shipping lines having designated teams working to re-route and update shipping schedules. We at RV Shipping are in continual talks with the shipping lines regarding their decisions, so we can ensure that any of our shipments on the water that have been affected, are shipped to their destination in the safest and quickest way possible.
Going forward, we will keep you informed about changes to typical transit times that may be affected due to the re-routing around the Cape of Good Hope, or additional transhipments that may be required to best serve the destination port.
